About the Author
Alan Korwin, author of six books and co-author of eight others, is a full-time freelance writer, consultant and businessman with a twenty-five-year track record. He is a founder and two-term past president of the Arizona Book Publishing Association, which has presented him with its Visionary Leadership award, named in his honor, the Korwin Award. He has received national awards for his publicity work as a member of the Society for Technical Communication, and is a past board member of the Arizona chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Mr. Korwin wrote the business plan that raised $5 million in venture capital and launched the in-flight catalog SkyMall; he did the publicity for Pulitzer Prize cartoonist Steve Benson s fourth book; working with American Express, he wrote the strategic plan that defined their worldwide telecommunications strategy for the 1990s; and he had a hand in developing ASPED, Arizona s economic strategic plan. Korwin s writing appears nationally regularly.
Korwin turned his first book, The Arizona Gun Owner s Guide, into a self-published best-seller, now in its 25th edition. With his wife Cheryl he operates Bloomfield Press, which has grown into the largest publisher and distributor of gun-law books in the country. Built around ten books he has written on the subject, it includes the unabridged federal guides Gun Laws of America and Supreme Court Gun Cases, a line of more than 250 books, buttons and DVDs, and more than 1,000 radio and TV appearances. He was an invited guest at the U.S. Supreme Court for oral argument in D.C. v. Heller, which led to his 11th book, The Heller Case: Gun Rights Affirmed. His 12th book, on the limits of free speech, Bomb Jokes at Airports, was followed by After You Shoot: Your gun s hot. The perp s not. Now what? His 14th book, in 2013, is Your First Gun.
Alan Korwin is originally from New York City, where his clients included IBM, AT&T, NYNEX and others, many with real names. He is a pretty good guitarist and singer, with a penchant for parody (his current band is The Cartridge Family). In 1986, finally married, he moved to the Valley of the Sun. It was a joyful and successful move.

Buy This Before Buying Gun(s)

A previous reviewer said the print is too small, that's totally untrue. This print is larger and spaced than average. It's perfect print, imo. If you can't read it then get glasses and/or take some vitamins.
Other reviewers also criticize his credibility. A lawyer would be charging you heavily for the same information & advice, that is if he/she publishes such books. And the author even admits that his books shouldn't be taken as legal advice, and if he didn't, he'd most likely be in trouble. In the end, you're responsible, not him, regarding credibility.
Also keep in mind the date of when the book was published because laws can change every year.
If you still dislike his books than publish your own book(s).
I love this author, i have his other books, because he seems to be the only one publishing books on what you need to know regarding your 2nd Amendment rights. And if you subscribe to his website he'll send you updates on gun issues/law changes.

Pretty good introduction to a first gun purchase

Full disclosure... I already own several guns, including self-defense and sporting guns. I read this out of curiousity and to see if this was a book I would recommend to friends who were considering a first gun purchase.
I think this is well written and pretty complete. All the major issues to be considered were very well address, and Alan left in some teasers about more advanced topics one might want to explore after a purchase. I can recommend this book in good conscience.
To those of you interested in a first gun, don't stop here after a purchase. I urge you to join the Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network. There are significant benefits to joining, not least of which are the 6 DVD's they will send you immediately. Those DVD's have critical information every gun owner should know about when you can shoot and when you cannot, and what to do after a shooting, if, God forbid, you should have to defend yourself.

Good informational reading for prospective gun owners

The author Alan Korwin puts forth in black and white the best advice regarding gun ownership. I'm an old guy that's been around guns just about my whole life. With the boom in new gun owners, I felt that I may not be able to give the right advice to anyone considering their first firearm. I've heard the author speak and believe he covers the topic better than most anyone. After reading his book I feel now that I could cover the topic and it's responsibilitys when asked. It's good reading for anyone considering gun ownership, and a good reminder for those of us that already are. Buy a copy for yourself, and another for a friend.
