About the Author
Marlyn Shelton is Professor Emeritus of Atmospheric Science at the Department of Land, Air and Water Resources, University of California, Davis, USA. He is a member of the American Water Resources Association, the Association of American Geographers, and the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers. He has been elected as a Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Fellow and a Fellow of the Ohio Academy of Science. He has authored and co-authored four previous books, published numerous scientific papers, and served as an associate editor for the Journal of the American Water Resources Association from 1991-9. He has given interviews to newspapers and television stations on topics such as climate change, El Ni�o, floods, drought, and air quality, and has presented lectures and workshops for the US Forest Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Climatic Water Budgets

This is Shelton, Professor emeritis, UC-Davis, at his forte. This is what he taught and a work of passion. The world must come to see water and climate from this perspective - a whole or big picture way of looking at things. Not mathematically intimidating and a good treatment. I wish water managers at the local, state and country level thought this way (compared to "go get more"). This is a big treatment. Even understanding the subject it will take a while to get through it all - and will work as a handy reference to refer to from time to time.

About the Author

Patrick D. Howard, CISSP, CISM, is a senior consultant for SecureInfo, a Kratos Company. He has over 40 years experience in security, including 20 years service as a U.S. Army Military Police officer, and has specialized in information security since 1989. Mr. Howard began his service as the Chief Information Security Officer for the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic Support Contract in Centennial, Colorado in March 2012. He previously served as CISO for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Rockville, Maryland from 2008–2012, and for the Department of Housing and Urban Development from 2005–2008. Mr. Howard was named a Fed 100 winner in 2007, and is the author of three information security books: The Total CISSP Exam Prep Book, 2002; Building and Implementing a Security Certification and Accreditation Program, 2006; and Beyond Compliance: FISMA Principles and Best Practices, 2011. He is a member of the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium’s Government Advisory Board and Executive Writer’s Bureau, which he chairs. Mr. Howard is also an adjunct professor of Information Assurance at Walsh College, Troy Michigan. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1971 and a Master’s degree from Boston University in 1984.

CAP Study Guide

A good study guide and informative. I wish the book also came with some practice tests on CD or something similar. Also, full copies of the most recent policies and publications that are referenced through out the book would have helped immensely instead of having to spend time finding them on my own, from websites that are usually secured from the average user not working from a DoD network.

Pretty Good Prep Material

Its a read like all ISC books, but the content is pretty straight forward and the flow is logical, I will say that as a DoD IA professional there are some inaccuracies in the book, re: the book states that Physical (DoD 8500 PExx etc..) controls are inherited controls, this is not always true, it depends on the task, as an example, on an Army task I was on doing testing and C&A leading to issuance of an ATO all Physical and Personnel controls were NOT inherited, they were considered shared, shared by the site (in this case TRADOC) and Ft Eustis, both entities shared the responsibility and as the accrediting entity we could not write the controls off as "inherited" they either passed or failed-as directed by the Army ODAA, so as with all INFOSEC/IA/Info Security controls, either DoD 8500 or NIST 800.53, they are often very specific to the site environment, task, and branch and variances do exist, it is not always so cut and dry.

Reads like a boring dictionary

It reads like a dictionary and is not focused on exam topics. I have been doing this kind of work for years and have been CISSP since 2001. This book was more confusing than helpful because it is written so badly. It is just long winded vague and their is no effort to map it to a job skill. It is PURELY CONCEPTUAL. It will make reference to a specific NIST document, but it will not put any context to statements, the graphics are average to poor and generally the book puts you to sleep. I recommend a third party book if you are preparing for the exam or a 3rd party class if you are attempting to gain the skills.

It's a textbook

This is a required textbook for our DIgital Circuits class, over all I think the book is very simple and easy to understand. It's not written for people who are geniuses, it's actually written pretty down to earth. The only problem is that the book lacks depth, it doesn't go into very much details. I would be looking for problems as tough as my class assigns, but the book itself doesn't teach that depth.

Textbook was alright, I only bought it because my teacher said it would really help us. I definitely could have completed the course without the help of this textbook. I only used it a couple times. Good book for beginners!

This book was given to us for our Intro to Digital Design and Circuits class. I personally loved reading the book as a learning enthusiast and an ECE major. The book provides good examples that relate to real life to help you understand. I still keep the book to this day as a reference. I recommend the book to anyone starting out, not necessarily for people who already know their basics.

The text of the Fourth Edition of the Norton Critical Edition of Emma is based on the 1816 edition published by John Murray. George Justice has lightly and judiciously emended the text for faithfulness and clarity. The novel is accompanied by detailed explanatory annotations as well as facsimiles of the 1816 title and dedication pages.

“Backgrounds” collects a wealth of source material, much of it new to the Fourth Edition. New material includes Austen’s correspondence with her publisher about the business of writing, revealing Austen’s view of her own writing and career. In addition, there are two sets of verses―“Kitty, A Fair But Frozen Maid” and “Robin Adair”―referenced in Emma as well as responses (1815–1950) to Austen and her writing from, among others, Charlotte Brontë, Juliet Pollock, Virginia Woolf, D. W. Harding, and Edmund Wilson.

“Reviews and Criticism” includes twelve major interpretations of the novel, nine of them new to the Fourth Edition. New contributors include Jan Fergus, Patricia Meyer Spacks, Tony Tanner, Maaja Stewart, D. A. Miller, Emily Auerbach, Gabrielle D. V. White, Richard Jenkyns, and David Monaghan.

A Chronology and Selected Bibliography are also included.

Jane Austen (1775–1817) was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the gentry, earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature.

George Justice is Vice Provost for Advanced Studies and Dean of the Graduate School as well as Professor of English at the University of Missouri–Columbia. He is the author of The Manufacturers of Literature: Writing and the Literary Marketplace in Eighteenth-Century England as well as essays and reviews on books related to eighteenth-century literature and culture. He is editor, with Albert J. Rivero, of the scholarly journal The Eighteenth-Century Novel. He is co-editor of Women’s Writing and Circulation of Ideas: Manuscript Publication in English, 1550–1800.

If you haven't read a Jane Austen novel more than once, you won't understand that this uneducated lady wrote world class novels.

As a "Janeite" having read all six novels plus Lady Susan twice in the past year, this is the edition I recommend. It has old and modern criticism and source material in the back and helpful interpretations of archaisms at the bottom of the text page.
