This is so far the best book about timber design I have ever come across. Best thing about the book is the plain language, and the amount of examples. Every possible concept about timber design is given by an example which makes it way easier to understand the subject.

Use of the word soul to denote the inner world of human experience has not been fashionable in recent psychology. In this ground-breaking study, however, the author stresses that our inner life is always active as a whole entity, which calls for recognition of the human soul as a being. Drawing on ideas of Goethe, Brentano, Husserl, Scheler, and Rudolf Steiner, Zeylmans van Emmichoven uses the soul's own self-perception as his method of clarifying the mysteries of the inner life.

What does he find? "The soul as an inner world participates in two worlds: an external world and...a still deeper, interior world." The soul is revealed as a mediator between the outer physical world (including the body) and the inner core of the human being, the "I." Through its intentional relationship to these two worlds, an ever-shifting stream of dynamic polarities continually courses through the soul: love-hate, joy-sorrow, pleasure-displeasure, desire-satisfaction, laughing-weeping, life-consciousness.

In a compact and lively style, other soul processes are similarly examined, including doubt, volition, mental images, perceiving, judgment and decision, spatial-temporal experience, and sexual identity. The language of dreams is discussed and ordered into four types. The expressive capacity of the soul in speech, posture, temperament, and character is treated with subtlety.

The author also proposes another dimension to psychology in the notion of the soul's drive for development, which unfolds through the Goethean laws of polarity, enhancement, and metamorphosis. He paints a profound picture of the higher goal of human life: the soul's gradual liberation from physical bonds to become an organ for the Self, always balanced by the soul's inclination to become an organ for the body. Along this unfinished journey, toward a full human existence, the author depicts the roles of love, wisdom, and inner death and resurrection. As the author points out, there is an area where psychology and philosophy of life overlap and cannot be entirely separated.

About the Author
F. W. Zeylmans van Emmichoven (1893-1961) studied medicine, especially psychiatry, at the University of Leipzig . He helped form the Anthroposophical Society in The Netherlands in 1923 and became its General Secretary in 1935. Later, he was excluded from the General Anthroposophical Society as a supporter of the "Ita Wegman group." He died during a lecture tour in South Africa.

Willem Zeylmans van Emmichoven's lectures were usually well-attended and he spoke authoritatively as a psychiatrist out of a deep understanding of Rudolf Steiner's Anthroposophy or Spiritual Science. For anybody who wants to move away from materialistic concepts of the soul, this book is a good starting point to break the spell, as Zeylmans could make unusual ways of looking at the world rather transparent and understandable. He was a very experienced and enthusiastic lecturer and a clear thinker.

There’s a decidedly technological bent here, with stories featuring a robot nanny, a murderous GPS system, a vampiric MP3 player, and more. The most fiendishly conceived, however, are an introduction by a “teen-lit expert”offended by Horowitz’s stories; a little ditty called “The Man Who Killed Darren Shan”; and a conclusion allegedly written by Horowitz’s horrified publisher. It's truly a winner.

This book was bloody good! I picked up this book on a whim and boy, am I glad I did. I loved every story in this book and I cannot wait to get my hands on the second addition of this book. As a substitute teacher, I am excited to tell some of my older students about this author and I just hope their library has a copy of his book on their shelf. I wished I could tell you about my favorite stories in this 300+ page book but then I would have to tell you about all fourteen stories and my review would be terribly long. I will tell you that in Bet Your Life, you really should know your trivia before showing up to be a contestant on that game show. I’m not sure if the audience really comes to watch the contestants win or not. Literally your lifelines save you and well, when they are gone….yep, game over. Oh, the story sheBay. That story was sad. No longer can you just sell items on ebay but sheBay and heBay have hit the computer waves. Yep, just like it sounds and you never know where you might end up. That’s what happened to Jennifer in this story. I love Darren Shan. He wrote the Cirque du Freak series which I read with my son, a great vampire series by the way for young teens. In The Man Who Killed Darren Shan, Henry’s a writer who feels he’s in the same league as Darren Shan as far as talent goes. Henry emotions get the best of him and things don’t turn out the way he had planned. There is The Cobra, My Bloody French Exchange, Are You Sitting Comfortably……(many more) and like I said they are each so good with unique twists and turns in each one that this is truly an excellent book. Yes, there is gore and violence but the stories are shockingly good!!

Anthony Horowitz continues to live up to his high expectations in this shocking thriller that can easily be best in show. Although to some it might be graphic, they wouldn't understand Horowitz if they haven't read any of his other books.

Good information on a little known aspect of Airwar

This book opened my eyes to an earlier time than I knew existed in aerial combat in that area, and continued into the soccer wars, my prime interest in the book. Well illustrated. My copy had a disc with a lot of narrative which I had printed and bound. I hadn't seen this done before but it added a great amount of info.

Five stars are not enough

Every so often a book comes along that is so good that the highest possible rating isn't high enough. This is that sort of book. I read plenty of aviation history books, and this is, simply, the finest aviation history book of the last ten years.

The amount of research that obviously went into this book, and its presentation, are both mind-boggling. Most of these conflicts I had never even heard of, and yet here is the whole story, complete with photos and color profiles.

Even if the locations covered and/or the period covered is not your "cup of tea", you still have to at least see the book to see how aviation history should be documented. Hikoki's books are generally the last word on their subjects, but this one even surpasses that. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

Excellent resource for modelers on Latin American aviation

This book is an excellent source of photos and scale drawings for Latin American warplanes for modelers. A plus for the book is that even though there isn't much text in the book, Dan Hagadorn provides a link to his text suppliment for those who do want to read up the history of the battles listed in the book (If you plan to print the text, make sure that you have plenty of paper and printer ink!). This book is an excellent source for me due to the fact that I was able to find rare pictures of planes that I would like to build such as Cuban P-38, T-33, B-26 and P-47 aircraft, Honduran P-38, F4U-5, and T-33, Argentine Meteor, F4U-5 and F-86 and Costa Rican P-38 and P-51 aircraft. There is also a chapter on US operations in Latin America during WWII along with Mexican and Brazilian operations with US Forces in the Phillipine and European theaters. If you have an interest in Latin American air combat, this IS the book to get.

Air Fryer Heaven!! I just received this book a few days ago and I was sitting at my table skimming through the book and I was pleasantly surprised with not only the recipes, but also the first few pages of frequently asked questions and the cooking guide. I like so many pictures to show you the finished products. The recipes themselves sound so good. And it is unbelievable when you look through this book and realize just how many things can be made in an air fryer! A great book that is priceless to me as I can now cook even healthier than I have been!!

AMAZING! MUST-HAVE COOKBOOK!

I’m a big fan of Allison Waggoner and own all of her books (three so far!). My sister gave me an air fryer for my birthday and I’ve been on the hunt for a cookbook ever since. This book is FANTASTIC! I've had friends over for dinner on multiple occasions and they can’t stop talking about the wonderful food. The biggest reward has been hearing my friends rave about these recipes and sharing this book with them. I’ve tried about fifteen different recipes so far, and they’re all delicious and so tasty. The directions are easy to follow and there are dishes you can prepare ahead (which is great for entertaining!). The book is also so well put together, and I love the photography in all of Allison’s books. Great job! Buy this Now!

Photos are beautiful. Recipes are easy to follow;however, you still have to "play" with your own recipes to make them work. The fryer is a wonder addition to my kitchen and I have been using it all the time since I got it.

Highly recommend! Best cookbook for Hot Air Fryers!!

Great cookbook! Thanks for the ideas and recipes. We bought my mom the Phillips Digital Air Fryer for Christmas along with some accessories. My kids got her this cookbook. It's great!
My mom doesn't need cookbooks and can whip up great food. I do not share that"gift". I need cookbooks, and then I just might have a chance to get something right. :) This cookbook really covers a lot of what you can do with the Air Fryers. It gives anyone a great recipe to follow or an idea for those that can already cook or cook great! There are pictures with the recipes, and it's a simple, but well thought out book. I don't buy cookbooks that have difficult recipes or ones without pictures. This cookbook was rated well, and so looked at the few pages on the "Look inside" and it looked promising. I bought it for my kids to give her. It DELIVERED!! Great cookbook!! I could maybe even make a successful meal from her book!
Absolutely a great find and I highly recommend it even for great cooks out there like my mom. It gives you more ideas, it's creative yet practical everyday and special occasions recipes. I don't impress easily when it comes to cooking anything.... but this cookbook is worth the buy, I bought the hardback. I know it has a Kindle version one too, but I thought that would be more difficult to use then a real hard covered book. LOVE IT!! More importantly? My mom does use it. The recipes are a great success, the food comes out great, and again it gives you ideas on different ways or foods you can make using the Hot Air Fryers. She uses the cookbook a few times a week and is always making great food!! This cookbook is out on the counter, not on the shelf with all the others!!
Thank you to Ms.Waggonner for making a great, easy to understand cookbook with great pictures! It has given my mom even more ideas of how to use her new Hot Air Fryer!

A Delightful Collection!

Few writers are equally capable in multiple genres. Some of my favorite novelists are terrible short story writers, and vice-versa. I loved Ray Bradbury's short stories but never responded as strongly to his novels; and Sue Grafton's short stories should never have made it past the editor.

But Joanne Harris is one of those few who are masters of any form. She writes adult novels, young adult novels, and short stories -- all with humor, depth, and virtuosity.

The stories in this collection are delightfully eclectic. The narratives vary from first person to third person, present tense to past tense. They are centered in mundane reality and startling new worlds, with characters equally mundane and transcendental. Not only does each story vary from its predecessor, but even the stories themselves can take strange and wonderful twists.

What is clear through all these stories is Harris' love and concern for humanity, her recognition of all our diversities and perversities, too.

One simple story brought me to eruptions of laughter, startling my wife who was trying to sleep beside me as I read. It is a story of the day when a rain god resident in New York encounters a sunny girl whose impact on him has worldwide consequences.

And another story, written for her daughter (who was dissatisfied with the ending of the Phantom of the Opera), offers a contemporary take on the story that moved me to tears.

Only one story -- Cookie -- left me unsatisfied. I felt that Harris had a better sense of how she was ending the story than I did. But the fault may be mine. It in no way kept me from cherishing the entire collection.

All in all, this is a great read, and a book to keep for sharing and revisiting.

Joanne Harris remains one of my favorite writers. She presents an interesting collection of short stories that are well developed and meaty. Most of the stories were enjoyable and well worth the investment of time. Some of them were so absolutely fascinating that I hope she will develop them more fully into a full blown book or two.

Working with groups of people on a project...get this book!

I am a huge fan of Kenneth Blanchard's work, One Minute Manager Series. He has produced yet another great example of being an effective leader through Situational Leadership. Team Building is the most efective way to achieve high performance but team members can impede their own progress. This book is very detailed in providing steps for anyone working with teams. With so many different ideas and personalities to consider, I feel more confident to create committees and recognize "team behavior" by being prepared and responding appropriately.

Excellent companion for backpack or briefcase.

Chris Lubkemann has produced an excellent second book to follow his first one on whittling branches and twigs (see my review of his other title). This book is just the right size for the camping kit, backpack, briefcase, or glove compartment. Further, I am impressed with the physical quality and durability of its construction. These comments may seem trivial until one fully appreciates the usefulness of this piece. As usual, Lubkemann's writing is clear and concise, giving the reader the feeling that he truly intends to be understood. The photographic illustrations are clear and uncluttered, and the "Tip Boxes" inset periodically throughout the text are helpful and entertaining. The ideas and projects presented are complete and can stand alone, but, more that that, serve as a springboard for one's own ideas and whittling designs. This is a true benchmark of good writing, in my opinion. My eleven-year-old son and I have already discussed whittling some "fancier" hot dog roasting sticks for a spring campout. I'm glad I own both of Lubkemann's books and would be hard-pressed to choose between them. My recommendation is to purchase both titles and save the shipping costs.

Great way to spend some time decompressing...

I love to camp and a friend gave me this book along with a Swiss Army Knife...I never saw myself as a "whittler" and now I'm hooked. The projects are fun, easy, and don't require a whole lot more than some twigs and some sitting still. And a bonus -- it includes useful camping tips and delicious recipes for outdoor staples such as peanut butter smores, gorp, and lemonade.

Great Beginners Book for Whittling and Other Outdoor Knowledge

I was so impressed by this little book that I bought a copy for each of my adult children, along with a Victorinox Swiss Army Tinker, and a few other sharpening tools and materials, as well as a block of Basswood. They will be admonished to learn this skill and when the time is right, pass the skill and tools along to my grandchildren... or let me enjoy doing so.
This is the first of two great books I have found for learning to whittle; the other is Whittlin' Whistles by Rick Wiebe. Both of these books are filled with illustrations and detail of technique for maintaining your pocketknife to whittle as well as be successful in the projects. On-line one can find instructions for whittling a whistle, a ball in cage, and other items, but a well-illustrated book is more effective. Another booklet I have found is Whittling for Beginners by Salty; this is available only from select Woodcarving stores.
Lubkemann's book is a great resource for not only teaching the skill of whittling, but also it offers snippets of outdoorsman and woodlore knowledge covering a very broad range of topics - reminiscent of the Boy Scout Handbook or Field Book of years ago.
Ten of his 90 pages cover topics of pocket knife selection (he prefers the versatility of the Swiss Army Tinker), sharpening, and whittling cutting techniques. Lubkemann's projects are drawn from art and utility from the out-of-doors, covering spoon, fork, spreader, carved figures, walking stick, sling-shot, whistle, and more. His raw material is the fallen branches found almost everywhere except for the densest urban setting.
Highly recommended.
